North Dade Youth and Family Coalition (NDYFC), also known as Youth Violence Prevention Coalition, was born in 2006 following a wave of shooting deaths involving youth. Our approach is both holistic - serving the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the physical symptoms of a disease and is community-based - one that seeks to address the collective problems of families, individuals and communities at a local level.
NDYFC goals are to ensure children are: (1) Healthy- physically and emotionally; (2) supported by safe, nurturing families and communities; and (3) Succeeding in school and society.
Our mission is fulfilled through coordinated and cooperative systems of care 'Care Coordination' to strengthen and improve the lives of youth and families. Including intake, assessment, linking children and families to community service partners and continuous case management to engage families that possess varied and complex needs.
Creating innovative and effective community solutions.
North Dade Youth & Family Coalition is a private non-profit 501c3 organization comprised of community-based agencies representing health, behavioral health, law enforcement, education, housing, employment, youth development, recreation, residents, business and municipal leaders who work collectively and collaboratively to improve the quality of life for children and families facing challenging social and economic situations living in the City of Miami Gardens and within North Miami Dade County.
NDYFC serves as the hub, or nucleus, that links families to needed community resources – these resources comprise the NDYFC Network.
A special collaborative relationship with Miami Gardens Police Department ensures families and their children access the services they need in the time they need them.using a direct referral process.
When you give to NDYFC you give to over 35 community direct-service providers that assist children and families. NDYFC collectively and collaboratively creates effective community solutions with an array of service providers comprised of health, mental health, substance abuse, education, law enforcement, after school and youth enrichment organizations, housing, employment, residents, business and municipal leaders - all working to effectuate change with those in need using common language and goals.
Your generous donation decreases duplication of services and increases collaborative community resources to better serve and support children and families.
One of NDYFC's strategies is community engagement. Whether walking thru the community to engage hard to reach residents or having a toy or toiletry giveaway for families struggling to meet their daily obligations, NDYFC works throughout the community to serve whenever and where ever we can.
NDYFC works to develop our most precious assets....our children. From preparing them for job readiness through appropriate dress and interview techniques, education and tutoring services, community service, conflict resolution and decision-making. Our goal is to ensure they have every opportunity to pursue a positive productive life.
The NDYFC Network is a collaborative of community stakeholders representing health, mental health, law enforcement, education, housing, employment, faith-based facilities, residents, business and municipal leaders who are committed to improving the lives of children and families facing vulnerable and crisis situations in Miami Gardens and North Miami Dade County.
The Network meets monthly to address community need, identify gaps in services and develop ways to better collaborate in holistically and collaboratively.
Wraparound is an intensive, holistic method of engaging with children and their families with complex needs so that they can live in their homes and communities and realize their hopes and dreams.
NDYFC services approximately 450 children and families every year using a team approach that is community based, culturally relevant, individualized, strength based, and family centered.
NDYFC aims to develop the problem-solving skills, coping skills, and self-efficacy of the young people and their family; with an emphasis on integrating the youth into the community and building the family’s social support network.
Healthy Living - Balance Flexibility & Strength
Balance Flexibility & Strength (BFS) Program is funded by Health Foundation of South Florida under the Live Healthy Miami Gardens initiative to help men stay strong and live long.
African American/Black men face high health disparities such as Prostate Cancer deaths where Black men are more than twice (2.4 times) the rate for White and Hispanic men . Black men are least likely to participate in physical activity, and black men avoid health screening which puts their health at risk.
Thus, NDYFC recruits and trains men, ages 18 - 65, living in the City of Miami Gardens to meet the Center for Disease Control (CDC) physical activity guidelines and as a result improve the health of men.
Lessons in Jazz
Lessons in Jazz Experience is a series that has the power to bring generations together and promotes behavior change through music education and appreciation. Today’s music is rooted in yesterday’s sound. No matter the generation or culture, everyone connects through music.
Lessons in Jazz, funded by The Children's Trust, is a musical interactive multimedia journey through hip-hop history with sampling of past genres. It engages the audience to begin a discussion about sampling, educates participants on the evolution between hip hop and jazz, finds common ground between generations and builds upon shared values to develop strategies for violence prevention.
