The Home Team is a multidimensional youth-support program with the mission to measurably improve the lives of Miami-Dade public school students through engagement with academic, sports and business leaders.
Our program is unique in that it is framed by behavior change theory that comes from behavioral economics, which calls for incentivizing full participation to attain maximum benefits. This year we introduced two new after-school programs for young men and young women respectively, in the third, fourth and fifth grades of Francis S. Tucker Elementary School. This program consists of a two-hour structured session which includes reading/writing, art, sports and a meal.
Students also participate in professional mentoring in partnerships that we have established with Publix Supermarkets, the Jey Hospitality Group, which manages two South Miami restaurants, and Coffey Burlington, Attorneys at Law.
The Home Team offers almost two dozen tutors to Ponce De Leon Middle School, providing support to teachers of remedial English and Math classes during a two-hour period of the school day.
Our fourth program consists of providing academic assistance to students participating in the football program at Coral Gables Senior High School where tutors are provided to support a study hall that assists student-athletes with school assignments as well as preparation for the SAT and ACT standardized exams.

Meals are provided to every child in attendance at every study hall session. This past academic year, all senior participants in our program earned their high school diplomas while 8 student-athletes earned athletic scholarships that will allow them to continue their careers as student-athletes at the collegiate level.
