Sunrise Community, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide people with disabilities the assistance and support necessary to enable them to lead valued lives in the community.
One of many Sunrise Group Homes in Miami-Dade County where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live...a home just like yours! HELP US RAISE FUNDS TO INSTALL HURRICANE ACCORDION SHUTTERS!
One of the most fundamental human need is to live in a safe, healthy, secure, accepting and affirming environment. Our 214 Residential Group Homes serving over 1,000 individuals are exactly the kind of genuinely nurturing, caring homes we would want for ourselves or for our loved ones. They are the heart of Sunrise, and as such, our emphasis is on building a warm family atmosphere based on mutual respect and growing opportunities for friendship. We encourage and guide active participation in caring for the home, with emphasis on pride in personal spaces. A caring staff, with immediate access to supervisory and management support, is on hand constantly to help with nutritional meals and assistance with daily living. Each individual is encouraged to obtain his or her own levels of independence through skill-building opportunities. Each home has its own transportation vehicle to allow individuals easy access to the community and its resources.
Adult Day Training Services
Adult day training services are intended to support participation of individuals in their daily routines in the community, offering both mental and social stimulation to participants. Training activities are individualized and designed to engage the individual while allowing participants to interact with their peers on a daily basis. In addition, participants may learn how to do contract work, be part of a mobile work crew, or work in an enclave doing various jobs while improving their employment skills.
In many instances, the availability of day training allows the individual to remain at home and avoid the possibility of admission to a long-term care program.
Day training offered by Sunrise includes activities such as:
-Daily living skills, including money management
-Behavioral and social skills
-Health, safety and fitness

Supported Employment Services
Becoming a fully-integrated member of a community is often achieved by participating in some type of meaningful work. Supported Employment is a way to move people from dependence on a service delivery system to independence via competitive employment. Recent studies indicate the provision of on-going support services for people with disabilities significantly increases their rates of employment retention. Supported Employment services provide training and assistance in a variety of activities to support an individual in obtaining and retaining paid employment. Supported Employment provides the on-going level of assistance needed; it is tailored to each person to ensure they remain successful in their work environment over time.
Some of the Supported Employment supports offered by Sunrise include:
-Assistance with interviewing and obtaining a job
-Teaching appropriate social skills
-Acquiring work clothing
Many Sunrise locations support individuals with behavioral issues. Behavioral Analysis Services assists the individual through a process of learning new, appropriate behaviors and replacing existing behaviors that have negative impact on them and those around them creating a barrier to successful, full integration into their community. Using applied behavioral principles, the problem behavior is identified and strategies are developed to decrease the behavior while focusing on appropriate skills. Behavioral supports are offered based on individual need and needed family assistance. These supports may be provided in a home, school, place of employment, or a community setting.
Behavioral assessments and supports are designed to help an individual function to the best of his/her ability within the community. To achieve this goal, Sunrise offers information about behavioral issues and strategies to parents and caregivers of individuals with challenging behaviors.
