Students learn how to cultivate enjoyment and appreciation of art, teaching skills, build confidence, encourage creativity in producing art, as well as fostering a cross-curricular integration of art within all grade levels Students are familiarized with artists and art history. St. Rose of Lima students know that music is an art form which touches each of us in almost every aspect of our lives. All our students receive general music instruction once a week in a classroom setting.
Since we are a Catholic School, we also include the study and singing of Liturgical Music. We are proud of our students' accomplishments as they discover, interpret, understand, and enjoy the 'fine art of Music.'
The use of Computers, Chromebooks and Learn Pad Tables by students allows the learner to delve deeper into topics covered by the teachers.Twenty-first Century skills are defined as those skills needed by students to meet the challenges of the modern age.
Core subjects remain at the heart of these skills, but are taught while also focusing on problem-solving and creative thinking, collaboration, information literacy, and global awareness. Technology is an essential element in implementing a 21st Century-focused curriculum.
Spanish classes are offered to all students in grades kindergarten through eight. The Spanish curriculum covers the areas of listening, oral, reading, and writing skills. The primary program (K-4) requires students to comprehend, in Spanish, simple questions and basic vocabulary pertaining to everyday life.
Students are required to follow directions relating to classroom business in Spanish and demonstrate an ability to sing or repeat songs, poems, and rhymes. They use greetings and expressions of courtesy; and are able to count and identify numbers and colors, and parts of the body.
We offer Junior Varsity (4th, 5th and 6th grade) and Varsity (6th, 7th and 8th grade) levels, as well as both boys and girls teams. Our girls' sports include Varsity Cheerleading, Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball, Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball, Softball, and Running Club. Our boys' teams include Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball, Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball, Baseball, and Running Club.
The goal of the Accelerated Mathematics Program is to provide an organizational plan for accelerating students in mathematics to a level beyond the designated chronological grade equivalent. This goal meets the needs of those students capable of acceleration and enrichment in grades 4-8.
