The SFCPA is a Knight Arts Challenge winning, non-profit organization dedicated to creating new and enhancing existing opportunities to study, perform, and enjoy music through percussion. Along with educational programs from classical to world percussion, we help make music accessible to our community through school presentations, workshops, and performances. We also meet a challenge of studying percussion: access to literature, instruments, and rehearsal space in our 4000 sq.ft. facility!
Tom Bowden works with the Green Group (ages 9-11) on reading and drumming fundamentals.
Chris Cameron works with the Blue Group (ages 12-14) on keyboard warm ups.
Chris Cameron works with the Red Group (Ages 6-8) on hand drumming techniques.
The SFCPA's comprehensive approach to learning music through percussion- Our unique program is for students from 18 months to 18 years of age and is divided into 6 groups. The youngest 2 groups meet once a week and the upper 4 groups meet twice a week. All groups have 2 performances during the 14 week Fall and Spring Programs. Students are highly encouraged to join the program at every age level, regardless of experience. The variety of skills within a group inspire and unite the members to achieve the goal of the program- learning, playing, and performing together!
Free Friday Drum Jam
Everyone is invited to try out the instruments, learn from one another, and just jam out! A mixture of structured and non-structured activities cater to all ages and levels- learn the names of instruments, their different sounds, their history, and how to keep up with the rhythm of a drum circle!
Community Jam Session
The only Jam of its kind in West Kendall. Unexpected local talent and regulars mix for a unique outcome each week. Open to all levels and styles, it is also a great way for younger musicians to play with seasoned players in an encouraging, laid back atmosphere.
