The Mission of Miami Dade College is to change lives through the opportunity of education.
As democracy's college, MDC provides high-quality teaching and learning experiences that are accessible and affordable to meet the needs of our diverse students and prepare them to be responsible global citizens and successful lifelong learners. The College embraces its responsibility to serve as an economic, cultural and civic beacon in our community.
Food insecurity is on the rise on college and university campuses and can be an obstacle to student success and retention. Understanding that education is one key way to break the cycle of poverty, Miami Dade College, North Campus through the Single Stop program, opened its own North Campus Food Pantry for Students in 2013 to help students overcome this barrier.
With the rising costs of housing, tuition and books, food insecurity cuts across all demographic statuses and enrollment levels. Empty cupboards and scrapping by are a way a life for far too many students, and these stressors affect student success.
Miami Dade College students are involved in every aspect of the North Campus Food Pantry/Single Stop, from participating on the steering committee to manning the pantry and donating foodstuffs.
The pantry is completely run on donations. Please donate! Addressing food insecurity on campus serves both a human service and educational need.
