Eleven-year-old Jayla Hopkins used to think reading was boring, but all that changed with a little help from her friends at the Russell Education Foundation.
The Russell Education Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1998 by former Miami Dolphins linebacker, Twan Russell and his mother Corliss. Mrs. Corliss Russell, a South Florida educator for more than 35 years, impressed upon her children and students the importance of literacy as the cornerstone of education. Mrs. Russell believed that reading and writing services were needed for students from low-to-moderate income families attending schools in communities throughout Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.
