The mission of RPCVSF is to:
a) advance the cause of volunteerism for the betterment of the world and the community;
b) provide an opportunity for volunteerism in South Florida and the world; and
c) provide support service and networking for RPCVs living in South Florida.
RPCVSF, is committed to building a better South Florida and to encouraging a new generation of informed and engaged citizens. We believe that involving students in service-learning is a critically important approach to teaching and learning that will help create this new generation of citizens.
RPCVSF, in partnership with co-sponsors Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year Coalition and the Armando Alejandre Jr. Memorial Foundation, recognize and honor K - 12 and college/university educators each year for contributing to the integration of service into the curriculum and for making a commitment to connect students through service to help meet critical needs in the South Florida and/or global community. Cash awards are given to educators whose programs exemplify service-learning. In the past, the awards have ranged from $250 to $500.
Everglades Outing - 20th Year
The Everglades Outing is RPCVSF's flagship community service event every year. The Outing gives more than 100 kids from under privileged backgrounds the opportunity to see, learn about, and experience the amazingly unique ecosystems, plants, and animals that their home - South Florida - has to offer. Along with an army of caring adults, the participating kids learn all about alligators, birds, wetlands, and rocklands while spending the whole day active and outside.
Fair Trade Market
The Market began early in the millennium, selling items provided by our members at various RPCVSF events. It evolved and today primarily carries items purchased from Fair Trade organizations. In addition to in-house events, we also have a booth at local farmers’ markets. The Fair Trade Market supports the third goal of the Peace Corps–promoting a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
Support for HELP - Haitian Education & Leadership Program
PCVSF's 2017 donations to HELP generated by our Fair Trade Market sales typically cover Room and Board for 2 students. With the matching effect of this year’s donation, it’s 4 !!!! Keep shopping.
Peace Corps Partnership Program
As a Peace Corps alumni group one of the primary goals of RPCVSF is to support and promote Peace Corps. RPCVSF raises more than $1,200 each year to help current Peace Corps Volunteers complete Peace Corps Partnership projects in communities around the world.
