Indigo Community Doula Program
A doula is a trained non-medical professional who provides emotional support during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period. Research confirms that doulas enhance the pregnancy experience for the mother and family; lower risk of premature birth, caesarean and medical intervention and can increase breastfeeding beyond six-weeks. Our program educates women who have an interest in completing a doula training program but do not have the financial resources to do so and demonstrate financial need in this area. We offer full or partial scholarships to cover all training costs including tuition, books, supplies and certification fees. While in training our doulas provide services to referred clients on a sliding fee scale.
Milkworks Lactation Clinic
Breastfeeding can be one of the most satisfying parts of being a new mother. But contrary to popular belief, it is not something you and your baby will automatically know how to do. Getting started often requires education and support - assistance that has not always been readily available or affordable for mothers in our community. That's why we created MilkWorks!. Millworks is a monthly low cost lactation clinic.
Prenatal Care+ Clinic
Access to high-quality health care during—and even before—pregnancy is essential to giving birth to a healthy baby. In Florida, 25% of women do not obtain adequate prenatal care, and that figure has increased in the past five years. Without adequate care, pregnant women and their infants are at risk for life-threatening complications. Our Prenatal Care + (Prenatal Care Plus) clinic provides full spectrum care to women who have Medicaid coverage as well as those who are uninsured. Our clinic is staffed by midwives, who spend quality time with each patient, individualizing care plans that are tailored to be sensitive to the client’s cultural, ethnic, family, and lifestyle needs, while supporting a normal, healthy pregnancy, delivery and postpartum. In every setting, midwife-attended maternity care results in reduced infant and maternal mortality and morbidity, fewer medical interventions, decreased costs, increased savings, and improved client satisfaction. Care includes but is not limited to: nutritional counseling, psychosocial evaluation and support, informed consent, anticipatory guidance and patient advocacy. Client education is provided on overall pregnancy health, nutrition, childbirth, sibling preparation, breastfeeding, infant care, parenting skills and family planning. Each individual client’s educational needs are assessed and addressed accordingly.
Refugee Support Services
What does it mean to have a safe space? Everything. A safe space is a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm. In the last two months alone, we've witnessed as a country the loss of safe spaces for some of the most vulnerable among us: refugee families who have escaped the ravages of war and persecution and overcome unimaginable odds to resettle in what many of them believe to be the greatest country on earth. Instead of being greeted with opened arms, we have in the worst cases turned our backs on them. We provide emergency relief, housing assistance, employment aide and mentoring as well as hosting community gatherings to educate locals about the diversity of history, experience and culture of South Florida's Refugee population. Through our community gatherings we are currently hosting Syrian Supper Clubs.
We offer a variety of support groups in our offices to help support mental wellness including groups addressing issues related to postpartum adjustment, perinatal loss, birth trauma and establishing a successful breastfeeding relationship. Our goal is to provide family centered services which support and promote wellness and identify strengths across all environments. Our psychologists, therapists and group facilitators empower clients to develop coping skills and manage the challenges faced by growing families.
