The mission of the Miami-Dade Coalition for Community Education (MDCCE) is to strengthen our Community Schools by serving as advocates whose sole purpose is to promote all the endless benefits of Community Schools and Community Education for students of all ages.
Community Schools afford opportunities for all generations by offering programs that address basic everyday needs, such as health and childcare, thus minimizing the destructive forces of stress within the families. Today, more parents than ever work outside the home, and many struggle to secure adequate after-school care for their children (U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Justice, 1998; U.S. Department of Education 2000). Therefore, Community Schools offer an array of classes during non-traditional school hours, including before and after school hours, nights, weekends and even holidays.
Community Schools not only serve the community; they build community. Each individual Community School delivers programs and classes, such as art, music, dance, recreation, technology education, literacy, tutorial, and so much more. When people feel valued by their school, they reciprocate by supporting that school and school system. Community Education is a win/win situation!

Parade of the Stars Talent Show
This event will be held at West Miami Middle School on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. All Community Schools, as well as Before and After School Programs are invited to attend. If you have talent, come and show it at our Annual Parade of the Stars Talent Show. Every year, the M-DCCE puts on this event and raises awareness of all the talented students that attend our Community Schools. This year, 3 prizes will be given to the best singing ensemble, dancing ensemble and instrumental ensemble. This fun filled event brings out a great crowd of enthusiastic parents and children. Along with the talent show, we also have a drawing with incredible items, and have snacks and refreshments at a small cost. The money raised through this event will go to Scholarship Awards Fund for students who attend Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
The School House Awards Banquet
At this banquet, we will be recognizing numerous Miami-Dade School Educators, municipal and business partners, and community advocates that give their time endlessly to Community Education. Monthly, over 30,000 students are provided a safe learning environment, at over 200 schools during the crucial before and after school hours. Additionally, over 25,000 students of all ages participate in enrichment classes through the Community Education Program. This is the event where we give out scholarships to very deserving graduating seniors, who met criteria, submitted an application and were nominated as a finalist by School House Awards Committee. The amount of scholarships granted at this event, is directly correlated with how many funds we have raised thus far.
