Adult Literacy Project
The Adult Literacy Project is a program designed to assist primarily Spanish‑speaking adults who want to learn English. The program provides free instruction from an MDCPS teacher, as well as one‑on‑one tutoring, confidential case management to help adults improve their reading and writing skills. Adult learners are matched with volunteer tutors who help them achieve their reading goals. The Adult Literacy Project meets four times per week at the Redland Labor Camp for three‑hour sessions at a time. The Adult Literacy Project is designed to develop all components of language- speaking, listening comprehension, reading, writing, grammar, and pronunciation.
College And Career Readiness Program
The College And Career Readiness Program (CCRP) meets with high school students after school and provides academic advising as well as support services. Also, MAC's CCRP goes over important life skills, employ-ability skills training, summer internships, community service, and scholarship opportunities. Upon completion MAC gives college scholarships to exemplary students. The College And Career Readiness Program is currently at Homestead Senior High School, South Dade Senior High School, and Miami Community Charter School.
Family Empowerment Program
The Family Empowerment Program meets with families bi-monthly to participate in workshops and field trips. The purpose of the program is to provide farm worker parents the knowledge and skills they need to have a more active participatory role in their child's academic and personal lives. Some examples of workshops include: an overview of the school calendar, homework (best practices), special education, what is ESOL, standardized testing, graduation requirements, parent responsibilities, healthcare, criminal justice, immigration, financial literacy, drug and alcohol awareness and your teenager, schools of choice within Miami Dade County Public Schools, housing, post-secondary education opportunities, financing college, nutrition, insurance, citizenship, the parent portal, and internet safety. The field trips are to local area attractions, college campuses, and cultural events.
Homestead-Miami Mariachi Conservatory
The Homestead-Miami Mariachi Conservatory is a program for Miami Dade County students of farm worker background in grades K-8 who would like to learn and perform Mariachi music. Classes are taught twice a week by the world famous 'Familia Mora Arriaga.'
