The mission of Make-A-Wish Southern Florida is fundamentally basic: "Make-A-Wish Southern Florida grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy." The power of the program is truly transformative. Granting a "wish" for a child facing a life-threatening medical condition provides a multitude of tangible and intangible benefits. It offers the child something to yearn for that's not steeped in the language of hospitals, trauma, or pain. It provides the family the opportunity to celebrate something joyful together, without any worry or hassle. It provides people with a very unique opportunity to be a part of something bigger than themselves. It touches the hearts of those working on these individually-crafted wishes: the volunteers, the community members, the business owners donating goods and services, and very often, the caregivers, social workers, nurses and doctors.
