Child and Family Counseling
ICFH is one of the oldest, largest, and most respected providers of counseling services in the State of Florida. Our child and family counseling programs are designed to enhance individual and family strengths in order to achieve improvements in behavior, relationships, and/or emotional well being. We provide high quality counseling services to children, adolescents and families who are coping with a wide range of issues – from relatively simple behavior and adjustment problems to more serious conditions of depression, anxiety, child abuse, and trauma. Services are provided in the family's home, the child's school, or in one of our three outpatient centers. Increasingly – with funding cut backs and other barriers – our center is one of the few that still offers these essential services to needy and low income families. Access to high quality counseling services is especially critical for children and adolescents, as proper and timely treatment during childhood often serves to decrease the risk later in life for more serious mental health disorders, relationship problems, school failure, delinquency, and substance abuse.
Under this focus area, ICFH also provides substance abuse prevention services through the LifeSkills Training Program.
Early Childhood Programs
ICFH has developed highly respected services for families with children ages 0-5. These services include prevention programs for high risk pregnant moms including teenagers, parenting programs, and infant mental health therapy using evidence-based interventions that have produced excellent outcomes for parents and their infants and toddlers. Programs include: Infant Mental Health, Healthy Start, Home Visitation Program, Parent and Child Enrichment, Healthy Steps,Child First, and Light Touch for Success.
At Risk Youth Programs
These programs focus on reducing violence, delinquency, and at-risk behaviors in our communities by working with children, youth, and families that are at-risk for anti social behaviors. These programs include the Youth Gang Resource Center, as well as a series of intensive, family based intervention programs that focus on reducing delinquent behaviors by strengthening the family unit, reducing risk factors for violence and delinquency, and reinforcing protective factors. These programs include: Functional Family Therapy, Redirection, Family Empowerment, Family Associates/Serious Habitual Offender Sibling Program, Stop Now and Plan. Community Action Team, and Families and Communities Empowered for Success (FACES).
Literacy and Educational Programs
Our school based educational programs focus on improving the academic achievement of young at-risk children and their families. These programs include our successful All-Aboard tutoring/mentoring program to help at-risk kindergarten and first grade students learn basic literacy skills, and achieve promotion to the next grade. In addition we provide parent trainings that are designed to improve the overall well being of families facing complex medical, academic, or mental health challenges. These efforts include parenting courses that help at-risk families learn effective ways of caring for their children in order to avoid abuse/neglect, and that promote healthy attachment relationship between parent and child. Programs include: ALL-Aboard Mentoring and Tutoring, All-Aboard Family Literacy, and ALL-Aboard After School.
The Professional Training Program at ICFH provides our staff members and community professionals with high quality continuing education. Through activities that are specifically targeted towards child-focused treatment, we are not only improving the quality of the services we provide our clients, but we are also giving our staff opportunities to: a) enhance their practice, b) obtain their licensing requirements, and c) develop the expertise to obtain specialized credentials in areas like play therapy, and infant mental health.
This program also allows licensed clinicians in the community to obtain affordable continuing education. ICFH is an approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. We are also an approved provider of continuing education for Florida's Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling, and the Association for Play Therapy.
ICFH is fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), certified by the American Association of Psychiatric Services for Children (AAPSC - under the auspices of The Child Welfare League), accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), and participates as a fully accredited pre-doctoral internship training facility recognized by the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC).
