Informed Families Ambassadors deliver Informed Families' prevention materials in schools and communities. Ambassadors, often parent volunteers, counselors or educators, are given print and online materials for four campaigns during the school year: Family Day (prevention through parental involvement and regular family dinners); Red Ribbon Week (oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation); Lock Your Meds (prescription drug abuse prevention); and Safe Homes Smart Parties (underage drinking prevention).
Materials include posters, pledges, parent education flyers, morning announcement messages, newsletter entries, curriculum guides, family guides and more. Ambassadors are our delivery system and boots on the ground to help kids grow up safe, healthy and drug free.
Universal Prevention Campaigns
Informed Families develops universal prevention campaign materials to disseminate to families, schools and communities throughout the State of Florida. Family Day: A national effort to promote family dinners as an effective way to reduce youth substance abuse and other risky behaviors, as consistently finds that the more often children eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use illegal drugs.
Red Ribbon Week: The oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation. Red Ribbon is celebrated in schools across the State of Florida, utilizing tools developed by Informed Families. Safe Homes Smart Parties: A statewide initiative to ensure that drugs, alcohol and cigarettes will not be permitted at parties held in their homes and discouraged at parties in the community. Lock Your Meds: A universal prevention campaign intended to save lives from prescription drug abuse.
Red Ribbon Certified Schools
The Red Ribbon Certified Schools (RRCS) program, led by Informed Families, the National Family Partnership and the University of Central Florida, is designed to assess and then celebrate effective efforts in the prevention of substance abuse among youth. It highlights the efforts of schools who work in collaboration with youth, parents, educators and the community as a team.
Red Ribbon Certified Schools is about achieving academic excellence through prevention. This initiative celebrates effective efforts in the prevention of substance use among youth. It promotes team building to get parents, educators and students to work together towards creating a drug-free America.
Parent Peer Group Program
The Parent Peer Group (PPG) is an educational support system for parents. PPGs create fun, frequent opportunities for parents to share thoughts, activities and philosophies on "what works". PPGs are guided by the Informed Families' Parent Pilot Kit, a science-based, proactive notebook designed to educate and involve parents of pre-teens and teens in creating a safe, healthy, drug-free lifestyle. PPGs can be organized at a school, house of worship, home or restaurant where parents can be comfortable and speak freely. The initial four sessions will focus on four key topics called agendas: Brain Development, Media Literacy, Social Norms and how to form Parent Peer Groups.
