Humane Education Program
The Humane Society of Greater Miami believes that the building of a more kind, just and loving community for the pets and people of Miami-Dade County begins with instilling the values of kindness and compassion. At public and private schools, scouting troops, special needs groups, local libraries, various community youth organizations as well as adult organizations, the Humane Society of Greater Miami teaches the young and old appropriate lessons about kindness to animals, empathy, responsible pet care and the causes and results of pet overpopulation. Last year - 2014 - was a very successful year! We have educated 1,508 adults and 11,777 children. If you would like to request a humane education speaker to visit your child's classroom or scout troop, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pet Therapy Program
The Pet Therapy Program at the Humane Society of Greater Miami brings the unique and healing human/animal bond to residents and patients of healthcare facilities, rehabilitation centers, children's hospitals and senior citizen homes across Miami. Certified animals shower residents and patients with unconditional love, creating happy, exciting interactions between pets and people and are instrumental in the healing process.
As a private, not-for-profit, charitable animal welfare organization, we rely on the community to help us fulfill our mission of finding a loving home for all the dogs and cats in our care and promoting responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs. From in-shelter support, to at-home foster care, volunteers are needed in every part of the work we do. There are several different opportunities to get involved as a volunteer such as becoming part of our Chefs for Pets, Playing4Life, Kitty Grooming and Basic Obedience Training programs, just to name a few. You can also join our team of foster heroes and help a homeless pet in your own home!
