Founded as the Honey Shine Mentoring Program in 2002 by Tracy Wilson Mourning, Honey Shine has grown in many ways over the last 10 years. In 2010, Honey Shine received 501c3 status as Honey Shine, Inc. Honey Shine's mission is to encourage the balance of mind, body and soul in girls and young women by providing nurturing experiences that enlighten their paths and empower their future.
A look back at Honey Shine events from May 2014 to May 2015.
During Camp Honey Shine, Honey Bugs receive swim instruction three days a week.
Honey Shine Mentees participate in workshops dedicated to the understanding and implementation of Robotics.
The importance of literacy is a key part of Honey Shine Programming. The girls are given books to read that will help them with comprehension, diction, and prepare them for tests in school.
Aspire to Shine Workshops
The "Aspire to Shine" Workshops are offered to the girls in the program twice a month. Our Workshops teach life-skill lessons, provide academic support and afford our Mentees the opportunity to experience a variety of field trips giving them exposure to the arts, sciences and much more. Topics covered in the workshops include: health education; college readiness; self-esteem; financial literacy; STEM and Language Arts; Robotics; and educational activities about sex and drugs. During Honey Shine programming, Honey Bugs attend age-appropriate, interactive sessions dedicated to the above topics.
Camp Honey Shine
Camp Honey Shine is a six-week day camp open to all girls enrolled in the Honey Shine Mentoring Program, located at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart.
Camp Honey Shine enables us to further enrich their lives with experiences and activities that will continue to broaden their horizons throughout the summer.
Honey Shine After School Program
The "Aspire to Shine" Afterschool mentoring meetings are held once a week between the months of September and May on the day designated by the school principal.
