Founded as the Honey Shine Mentoring Program in 2002 by Tracy Wilson Mourning, Honey Shine has grown in many ways over the last 10 years. In 2010, Honey Shine received 501c3 status as Honey Shine, Inc. Honey Shine's mission is to encourage the balance of mind, body and soul in girls and young women by providing nurturing experiences that enlighten their paths and empower their future.
2018 Hats Off Luncheon Recap.
During our Aspire to Shine workshops, girls felt empowered to share their stories with the world!
Aspire to Shine workshops focus on S.T.E.A.M. allowing our Honey Bugs to learn about pH balances in food, sugars and acidic levels in the foods they eat daily.
Honey Shine Mentees participate in workshops dedicated to the understanding and implementation of Robotics.
Liiteracy is a key part of Honey Shine Programming. Our Honey Bugs are given books to read throughout the year that help them with reading comprehension, diction, and prepare them for state testing in school.
Our Honey Bugs develop close bonds, friendships, and relationships with each other in After School, workshop, and Summer Camp. Honey Shine encourages and supports sisterhood. We teach them how to LOVE self first, provide character development, and teach them confidence to help them flourish into beautiful, civically engaged young women.
Aspire to Shine Workshops
The "Aspire to Shine" Workshops are offered to the girls in the program twice a month. Our Workshops teach life-skill lessons, provide academic support and afford our Mentees the opportunity to experience a variety of field trips giving them exposure to the arts, sciences and much more. Topics covered in the workshops include: health education; college readiness; self-esteem; financial literacy; STEM and Language Arts; Robotics; and educational activities about sex and drugs. During Honey Shine programming, Honey Bugs attend age-appropriate, interactive sessions dedicated to the above topics.
Camp Honey Shine
Camp Honey Shine is a six-week day camp open to all girls enrolled in the Honey Shine Mentoring Program, located at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart.
Camp Honey Shine enables us to further enrich their lives with experiences and activities that will continue to broaden their horizons throughout the summer.
Honey Shine After School Program
The "Aspire to Shine" Afterschool meetings are held twice a week between the months of September and May on the day designated by the school principal. The Honey Bugs are mentored by Honey Shine staff, gain access to guest speakers, field trips, charter development, and exposed to S.T.E.A.M. activities and programs.
