The mission of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony is 1) to instill life-long values of discipline, teamwork, responsibility, respect, and cultural appreciation in young musicians, ages five through eighteen, through learning, rehearsing, and performing in a professional, positive environment. 2) to enrich the cultural foundation of our community by reaching out to and recruiting young musicians from different cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds. 3) to train young people through teaching, rehearsals, and performances to function together as first rate orchestras, and ensembles that bring the communities together in outstanding music performances.
GMYS Concert Orchestra performs Farandole by Bizet at the South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center.
GMYS Symphony Orchestra performs Ali Mountain Song at the University of Miami Gusman Hall. The solo was performed by GMYS Symphony Conductor Huifang Chen.

This is the GMYS String Orchestra, our intermediate level ensemble performing at Florida International University in 2011.
This is our GMYS Preparatory class at Westwind Lakes Park performing in their December 2013 Holiday Recital. These classes are given for one hour per week and are free of charge for families in Miami-Dade County. This recital was held at the Westwood Christian School in Kendall.
GMYS outreach concert at the Coral Gables Museum. Featuring students from all of our levels; beginners, intermediate and advanced.
GMYS Preparatory Program
The Greater Miami Youth Symphony provides music classes for elementary and middle school students in Miami-Dade County. Classes are offered once a week for an hour throughout various sites throughout the county. Students learn how to play string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.
The Greater Miami Youth Symphony has ensembles for students ages 5-18. Students who play an instrument are encouraged to participate. GMYS is comprised of 4 String Ensembles and 3 Bands including a Jazz Band.
