Through support of spay/neuter programs FoMA is making a difference in the pet overpopulation in our community. In collaboration with Miami Dade Animal Services, FoMA sponsored the first ever Volunteer Fair to benefit MDAS homeless pets and MDAS staff.
Through sponsoring and supporting efforts like the recent Volunteer Fair, FoMA is able to bring new support to our open admission shelter, engage the community in their life-saving efforts and help to improve and save the lives of shelter pets. Over 250 guests attended the recent fair and 120 completed volunteer orientation and almost 30 others signed up to be foster parents.
In collaboration with Wings of Rescue, FreeKibble and Miami Dade Animal Serices, FoMA was able to help MDAS move nearly 50 pets out of Miami Dade County and to no-kill, low intake shelters in the northeast. Our first Wings of Rescue transport took place months before, ahead of Hurricane Irma, to help the shelter clear space for community pets separated from their families or lost as a result of the chaos often following storms
Control Pet Populations
By supporting efforts and organizations that provide spay/neuter and trap/neuter/return services, FoMA helps reduce pet overpopulation in Miami Dade County. Through education, advocacy and financial support, we decrease the number of homeless animals and high demand at our high intake shelter.
Help Shelter Pets
FoMA supports organizations that helps special needs and medically needy animals, and find homes for homeless dogs and cats. These efforts save lives and reduce overpopulation at MDAS so space is freed for community pets.
By working with stakeholders in the community and helping to educate and inform groups and individuals on the needs of the shelter and ways we can all be lifesavers, FoMA helps to build partnerships with important organizations and individuals and engage the next generation on issues of animal welfare and needs in Miami Dade County
