Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School’s mission is to provide our students with a comprehensive dual curriculum and bicultural/bilingual education through language acquisition and innovative programs, facilitated by a highly qualified staff promoting students’ academic excellence creating future world leaders.
A happy child is a child that learns. Students enter school each day to find a warm, welcoming environment, a place where they are loved, encouraged, and supported. Within a small classroom setting, students’ individual learning styles are addressed by highly experienced and certified teachers who bring a passion for teaching and a genuine interest in the success of each child. DDCES offers an educational experience that is inspiring, empowering and where a little magic happens every day.
Students have a choice of two tracks: Spanish or Portuguese. In addition, math, science and social studies are also taught in both English and the foreign language. Located in the Downtown Doral community, the brand new, state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology and right around the corner.
Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School's Spanish teachers hold degrees in Spanish and are certified to teach Spanish. This means that students are learning Spanish from experts. In some classes, the classroom teacher is certified to teach both Elementary Education and Spanish. The flexibility within our program allows the teachers at DDCES to meet the needs of students who enter the program from different backgrounds. Some speak the language with various degrees of fluency, but have not learned to read or write Spanish. Non-Spanish speakers are first instructed with SL techniques and gradually, as they gain command of the language, they are asked to meet the requirements of the Spanish curriculum. They are able to move from one level to another according to their progress.
There are an estimated 200-210 million Portuguese speakers in the world, making Portuguese one of the top 10 languages spoken in the world. Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world with the eighth largest economy. As we strive to prepare tomorrow's global citizens for competition in the world's work force, Portuguese is indeed, an important asset.
