The mission of Camillus House, Inc. is to provide compassionate hospitality and respect through direct services of food, clothing, shelter, addiction counseling, behavioral health services, job training, and health care to the poor and homeless of South Florida.
The ultimate goal of Camillus is to end chronic homelessness in Miami by providing fully integrated services to individuals with love, dignity, and respect.
Camillus House offers free, nutritious meals to the hungry of Miami-Dade County. Hospitality serves as an essential entry point into the full continuum of care services offered by Camillus, as many clients who initially visit in search of basic services decide to access other programs available.
Camillus offers free mail service, whereby persons who are homeless can use Camillus as a mailing address in order to send and receive mail. Incoming mail is sorted on a daily basis, and the names of all persons with mail pending are posted so that individuals know when to pick up their mail. Clients can also make free local phone calls, or long distance calls with approval.
The Camillus approach is distinct, a key component offered is the Institute of Success and Personal Achievement, local, State and Federally funded program for the treatment and rehabilitation of co-occurring (mental illness and substance abuse) and tri-morbid (mental illness, substance abuse and serious medical illness) conditions in persons who are chronically homeless.
A variety of services to bring dignity and basic assistance to individuals on the streets and those on the fringe of being homeless includes direct emergency services such as shelter, food, clothing, showers, telephone and mail services as well as case management.
Continuum of Housing
Emergency, transitional and permanent housing programs providing shelter nightly for some 1,000 individuals who are poor and homeless in 10 program sites located throughout Miami-Dade County.
Comprehensive Healing (Behavioral Health Treatment and Health Care)
Comprehensive treatment for two of the major causes of chronic homelessness: substance abuse and mental health issues. The program includes residential and outpatient treatment for mental illness, addiction, and/or co-occurring disorders through Camillus House's Institute for Social & Personal Adjustment (ISPA). Camillus’ sister agency, Camillus Health Concern, provides primary, preventative, supplemental and oral health care services.
At Camillus House, we not only believe that work dignifies men and women, but also provides them with the means to establish and maintain family life and to improve education. Our job programs prepare individuals to actively seek and obtain gainful employment, including on-the-job training and placement.
