The BURGER KING McLAMORE Foundation is focused on making a difference in the communities where we work and live. Through programs like BURGER KING Scholars and initiatives like Room to Read and TECHO, we build brighter futures through education. Our work with TECHO brings education to less advantaged areas in Latin America.
BURGER KING Scholars
Created in memory of BURGER KING Co-founder James "Jim" W. McLamore, the BURGER KING Scholars program has awarded $28.3 million in scholarships to more than 26,800 high school students, BK employees and their families across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico since 2000. In 2016 alone, the Foundation awarded $3 million to close to 2,800 students in North America.
Room to Read
In 2012, we partnered with Room to Read - an international organization dedicated to literacy and gender equality - to bring literary environments to children across Africa and Southeast Asia. Since then, we've brought literacy programs to nearly 60 partner schools, including the establishment of 55 libraries and the construction of 2 schools across South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Cambodia and India. We have also helped provide learning materials through the publishing of three children's books in local languages that were distributed across thousands of schools in South Africa.
Continuing our global commitment to education, in Latin America we partner with TECHO, a youth-led organization focused on eradicating poverty by building homes and community centers in underprivileged areas where residents can learn. Our efforts help TECHO bring literacy and skills training to students in these disadvantaged communities, giving them an opportunity to build a brighter future.
BK Family Fund
Thanks to the generous donations of BURGER KING employees, franchisees and Burger King Corporation, we've been able to provide $1.1 million in grants to more than 700 families since 2004. We are prepared to help BK families in 26 countries around the world.
